And another new week begins!
April 27, 2026

On April 27, 2026, the Moon is in a Waxing Gibbous phase, with approximately 81.9% illumination, following the First Quarter on April 23. The Farmers' Almanac Best Days Calendar lists this date as ideal for cutting firewood, mowing to increase growth, digging holes, and killing plant pests. The waxing gibbous phase is a prime time for planting to encourage leafy growth, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac planting guide.
Inasmuch as April 27 turned out to be a day that is otherwise devoid of any other awareness days to celebrate that would be of interest to our St. Nicholas family, the moon's phase gets the spotlight today. However, it's a perfect opportunity to share this stunning photo taken by Tracy Lynne Wolf Dickey of the night sky with the moon beaming over our church steeple and carillon bells. And we can always celebrate the awareness that, in our parish, we are many fingers pointing at the same moon.
