On this date in history...
On March 9, 1964, Louis Armstrong’s “Hello Dolly” was the number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, bumping the Beatles from that ranking they had held for 14 weeks. At age 62, this hit made Louis Armstrong the oldest artist to top the Billboard Hot 100, a record he still holds.
The song won the 1965 Grammy Award for Best Vocal Performance Male and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001.
